SUMMARY:Reading The Land (Wilderness Tracking Class)
DESCRIPTION:This introductory course will introduce the learner to the basic language and concepts of Man-Tracking. You will be exposed to concepts required to recognize disturbances to the natural environment caused by animals and humans\, known as “sign”. You will be shown how to “read” sign in order to follow animal and human tracks. Practical exercises will include building a tracking-box in order to understand how to “age” sign\, viewing and analyzing animal sign in order to better appreciate human sign\, crafting and using a tracking-stick\, and following a track. The course will be taught outdoors\, regardless of the weather. You will work in small groups with supervision. At the completion of this two day 12-hour block of instruction you should understand basic concepts and techniques used by trackers. You will be acutely more aware of the presence of animal and human activity in your area. You will have the basic knowledge of how to find and follow sign\, and the tools to improve your ability to follow a track! \nThe Instructor for this course is Steve DeLellis. Steve is an experienced military tracker and survivalist. He has trained with Apache Indians on the western plains\, the Border Patrol along the southern border of the United States\, with the Iban People of Sarawak Malaysia and the Miskito tribe in the jungles of Central America. Having spent over three decades in U.S. Army Special Operations units\, he has used man-tracking extensively in remote locations around the globe.\nThis is a fundraiser for the SOIL Foundation which is a 501c3 specializing in wilderness therapy for veterans\, civil service members and youth. This is a family event that goes from Saturday October 29th-Sunday October 30th at camp Soil 1619 River rd. Robbins NC. Enjoy the beautiful outdoor scenery and learn a valuable life skill.
